Gonadal Tissue Isolation

Gonadal tissue isolation is a laboratory technique used to separate developing or mature gonads from surrounding tissues for independent study of reproductive development. It typically combines anatomical identification, careful dissection, and removal of adjacent structures while preserving the gonad’s cellular organization and, when required, tissue viability. In developmental biology, isolated gonadal tissue supports analysis of germ cell development, somatic cell differentiation, tissue architecture, and interactions that shape sex-specific reproductive organs. The resulting samples can be examined through microscopy, molecular assays, or ex vivo culture, helping researchers connect developmental changes with gene expression, cellular behavior, and gonadal function.

Adipose tissue (AT) is a site of intense immune cell activation and interaction. Almost all cells of the immune system are present in AT and their ratios are altered by obesity. Proper isolation, quantification, and characterization of AT immune cell populations are critical for understanding their role in immunometabolic disease.

Gonadal and Placental Hormones

2026

The gonads, namely the testes in males and the ovaries in females, are pivotal in producing gonadal hormones that orchestrate the intricate processes of sexual development and reproduction. In males, testosterone is the primary gonadal androgen. It plays a central role in the maturation of male reproductive organs — the penis and testes. Additionally, testosterone is instrumental in the development of secondary sexual characteristics — a deep voice as well as facial and pubic hair growth — and...
