Ovarian Fitness Assessment

Ovarian fitness assessment is the evaluation of an ovary’s functional capacity, including follicle development, oocyte competence, and endocrine activity, to understand reproductive potential. It uses indicators such as follicle growth, hormone production, and the ability of oocytes to mature and support early embryonic development, linking ovarian physiology with developmental outcomes. In developmental biology, these assessments help researchers examine how age, genetics, environment, or disease influence gamete quality and reproductive success. The resulting data can guide fertility research, improve studies of ovarian aging and folliculogenesis, and support approaches for preserving or restoring reproductive function.

Ovarian cancer cell invasion into the mesothelial lining of the peritoneum is a dynamic process over time. Utilizing a real time analyzer, the invasive capacity of ovarian cancer cells in a spheroid-mesothelial cell co-culture model can be quantified over prolonged time periods, providing insights into factors regulating the metastatic process.

Most chemical reactions in cells require enzymes—biological catalysts that speed up the reaction without being consumed or permanently changed. They reduce the activation energy needed to convert the reactants into products. Enzymes are proteins, that usually work by binding to a substrate—a reactant molecule that they act upon. Enzymes exhibit substrate specificity, meaning that they can only bind to certain substrates. This is mainly determined by the shape and chemical characteristics of...

Obtaining Primary Ovarian Cancer Cells from Solid Specimens: A Method to Culture Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells from Ovarian Tumor Specimens

In this video, we describe a method for isolating and characterizing primary ovarian cancer cells from solid ovarian tumor tissue specimens. The epithelial cancer cells obtained using this protocol are suitable for understanding the processes that may lead to ovarian cancer initiation and development.

An Orthotopic Model of Serous Ovarian Cancer in Immunocompetent Mice for in vivo Tumor Imaging and Monitoring of Tumor Immune Responses

To study in vivo tumor growth and tumor microenvironment, we used a syngeneic and orthotopic mouse model of ovarian cancer in immunocompetent animals. We transduced a mouse tumor cell line (MOV1) with Katushka fluorescent protein (MOV1KAT) and here we show its orthotopic implantation in ovary and in vivo imaging.

Quantitative Fitness Analysis (QFA) is a complementary series of experimental and computational methods for estimating microbial culture fitnesses. QFA estimates the effect of genetic mutations, drugs or other applied treatments on microbe growth. Experiments scaling from focussed analysis of single cultures to thousands of parallel cultures can be designed.
