Cylinder Casting

Cylinder casting is a manufacturing process that produces cylindrical components by solidifying molten material within a shaped mold, making it important for creating shafts, sleeves, pipes, and other engineering parts. The process involves preparing a cylindrical mold, pouring in the molten metal or other cast material, and controlling cooling so the material fills the cavity and develops the required shape and internal structure. Engineers manage factors such as temperature, pouring rate, mold material, and shrinkage to reduce defects including porosity, cracks, and dimensional inaccuracies. The resulting cylinders can be machined, inspected, and evaluated for applications in mechanical systems, construction, transportation, and industrial equipment.

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Cylinders in Three-Dimensional Space

2026

A cylindrical surface is generated when a two-dimensional profile curve is translated along a straight line in three-dimensional space. The translated copies of the curve form a surface composed of parallel rulings, each oriented in the same fixed direction. This construction allows many three-dimensional forms to be described using relatively simple planar equations. In Cartesian coordinates, a cylindrical surface is often recognized by an equation that omits one of the three variables. For...
