Reconstruction Multiplication Moiré

Reconstruction multiplication moiré is an optical measurement approach that uses overlapping periodic patterns to reconstruct fine structural or displacement information from larger-scale fringe patterns. When two gratings or repeated textures with slightly different spacing, orientation, or phase are superposed, their interference-like envelope produces moiré fringes; controlled multiplication of the pattern frequency increases sensitivity to small geometric changes. In engineering, analyzing fringe spacing, phase, and distortion supports surface characterization, deformation measurement, alignment, and dimensional inspection. The method provides a comparatively simple route to amplifying otherwise difficult-to-resolve features, helping researchers evaluate precision components and improve noncontact metrology.
