Riftsawing Technique

Riftsawing is a timber-conversion technique that cuts boards from a log so the growth rings meet the board face at a steep, near-radial angle, producing exceptionally straight grain and dimensional stability. The process positions and rotates the log or cant between cuts, typically creating grain angles of about 30 to 60 degrees while limiting the effects of tangential and radial shrinkage. In engineering and wood manufacturing, riftsawing supports precision furniture, flooring, cabinetry, and other components requiring consistent shape, clean grain, and reduced cupping or twisting. Its trade-offs include greater material waste and lower yield than plain sawing, making cut planning important.

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Measurement Accuracy The ability to repeat an experiment and get the same results, or reproducibility, is essential in scientific research. However, it’s impossible to repeat an experiment if you don’t know how you did it. Thus, scientists keep detailed records of their experiments in lab notebooks. These records include important information like the amount of each material used and descriptions of each step of the procedure. Equipment, like balances and volumetric or graduated glassware, is...

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...
