Sample Holder Assembly

Sample holder assembly is the engineered arrangement of components that secures a specimen and positions it for measurement, testing, or processing. It works by establishing a stable interface between the sample and an instrument through features such as supports, clamps, seals, or alignment guides, while controlling orientation, contact, and applied loads. Proper assembly helps prevent sample movement, unintended stresses, contamination, and measurement errors. In engineering, sample holders support reliable characterization of materials, devices, and manufactured parts, enabling repeatable experiments and meaningful comparisons across tests. Their design also influences accessibility, environmental control, and compatibility with different instruments and sample geometries.

Protein Complex Assembly

2020

Proteins can form homomeric complexes with another unit of the same protein or heteromeric complexes with different types. Most protein complexes self-assemble spontaneously via ordered pathways, while some proteins need assembly factors that guide their proper assembly. Despite the crowded intracellular environment, proteins usually interact with their correct partners and form functional complexes. Many viruses self-assemble into a fully functional unit using the infected host cell to...
