Sequential Deposition

Sequential deposition is a fabrication method that builds a material, coating, or multilayer structure through a controlled series of deposition steps rather than a single operation. Each layer is applied in a defined sequence, allowing engineers to regulate thickness, composition, surface interfaces, and processing conditions as the structure develops. The approach supports precise construction of thin films, functional coatings, semiconductor devices, and other engineered materials in which layer order affects performance. By separating deposition stages, researchers can tailor mechanical, electrical, optical, or chemical properties and investigate how interfaces and processing parameters influence the final structure.

Sequential Games

2025

Sequential games involve players making decisions one after another, with each player considering the prior decisions of other players before deciding their own strategy. The order of these decisions is crucial, as each decision influences subsequent ones, affecting the overall outcome. Decision trees are valuable tools in illustrating these games, helping visualize each possible decision and its consequences, allowing players to anticipate and plan strategies effectively. Consider two coffee...

Phase Transitions: Sublimation and Deposition

2020

Some solids can transition directly into the gaseous state, bypassing the liquid state, via a process known as sublimation. At room temperature and standard pressure, a piece of dry ice (solid CO2) sublimes, appearing to gradually disappear without ever forming any liquid. Snow and ice sublimate at temperatures below the melting point of water, a slow process that may be accelerated by winds and the reduced atmospheric pressures at high altitudes. When solid iodine is warmed, the solid sublimes...

Sequential Game: Backward Induction

2025

Backward induction is a technique for solving sequential games. It involves analyzing the game starting from the end and working backwards to the beginning. This method helps players determine their best strategies by anticipating how others will react at each stage of the game, ultimately leading to the Nash equilibrium. Imagine two beverage companies, FreshFizz and CoolBrew, deciding whether to enter a new market. FreshFizz moves first and must choose to enter or stay out. If FreshFizz...

2016

Labile organic carbon (LOC) and the potential carbon turnover rate are sensitive indicators of changes in soil nutrient cycling processes. Details are provided for a method based on fumigating and incubating soil in a series of cycles and using the CO2 accumulated during the incubation periods to estimate these parameters.

Microscale Vortex-assisted Electroporator for Sequential Molecular Delivery
