Traverse Closure Check

A traverse closure check is a surveying procedure used to assess whether measured angles and distances form a geometrically consistent path between known or intended points. It works by comparing the calculated endpoint of a traverse with its expected endpoint, or by testing whether the measured angles and coordinate changes satisfy closure conditions; the resulting angular or linear misclosure indicates measurement and computation error. In engineering surveying, this check validates control surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layouts before results are used. When the misclosure is acceptable, adjustment methods such as the compass, or Bowditch, rule can distribute corrections and produce reliable coordinates.

Adjusting a Traverse

In the site survey of a four-sided traverse, internal angles are essential to ensure geometric accuracy. The survey revealed that the sum of the measured internal angles was 359 degrees and 48 minutes, which is 12 minutes less than the expected 360 degrees. This discrepancy signals an error likely arising from measurement inaccuracies during the fieldwork. To rectify this error, the adjustment process involved distributing the 12-minute shortfall equally across the four internal angles. By...

Traverse angle computations are a critical component of surveying, used to compute the internal angles within a closed traverse. A traverse consists of a series of connected lines forming a closed loop, often used for land boundary delineation or mapping. Calculating the internal angles ensures accuracy in the traverse geometry and is essential for checking survey data integrity. The process begins with known azimuths and bearings of the traverse sides. Internal angles at each vertex are...

According to the landmark 1999 Institute of Medicine report To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System, medication errors are a leading cause of preventable harm and death in hospitals. To mitigate these errors and enhance patient safety, nurses must consistently adhere to the Ten Rights of medication administration. These include the right patient, right medication, right dose, right time, right route, right documentation, right education, right to refuse, right assessment, and right...
