Pathways Data

Pathways data are organized records describing how genes, proteins, metabolites, and other biological components interact within cellular or physiological processes. In genetics, these data represent relationships such as gene regulation, protein interactions, and biochemical reactions, often assembled from curated experiments and computational analyses. Researchers use pathway databases and enrichment methods to determine whether particular genes or genetic variants cluster within shared processes, helping connect molecular changes to phenotypes and disease mechanisms. Pathways data support interpretation of genomic studies, prioritization of candidate genes, and development of testable hypotheses about how genetic variation influences biological function.

C4 Pathway and CAM

2019

Most plants use the C3 pathway for carbon fixation. However, some plants, such as sugar cane, corn, and cacti that grow in hot conditions, use alternative pathways to fix carbon and conserve energy loss due to photorespiration. Photorespiration is the process that occurs when the oxygen concentration is high. Under such conditions, the rubisco enzyme in the Calvin cycle binds O2 instead of CO2, which halts photosynthesis and consumes energy. C4 Pathway The C4 pathway is used by plants such as...

The Giant Fiber System is a simple neuronal circuit of adult Drosophila melanogaster containing the largest neurons in the fly. We describe the protocol for monitoring synaptic transmission through this pathway by recording post synaptic potentials in dorsal longitudinal (DLM) and tergotrochanteral (TTM) muscles following direct stimulation of the Giant Fiber interneurons.

Data Interpretation

Research papers often present findings in the form of numerical tables, statistical outputs, and graphical representations. However, numerical results alone do not convey meaning unless researchers examine and place them in context. Data interpretation is the systematic process through which researchers transform raw information into clear, meaningful insights. It begins only after researchers have collected data through experiments, surveys, or observational studies. In their unprocessed form,...

Other Glycolytic Pathways

The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) operates in parallel with glycolysis, facilitating the metabolism of both pentoses and glucose. This pathway consists of two distinct phases: the oxidative and non-oxidative phases. While it does not directly generate ATP, the intermediates formed during the process can integrate into glycolysis, contributing to cellular energy metabolism when required.Oxidative Phase: NADPH ProductionThe oxidative phase of the pentose phosphate pathway is primarily...

How Data are Classified: Numerical Data

Data that are countable or measurable in specific units are called numerical or quantitative data. Quantitative data are always numbers. Quantitative data are the result of counting or measuring the attributes of a population. Amount of money, pulse rate, weight, number of people living in a town, and number of students who opt for statistics are examples of quantitative data. Quantitative data may be either discrete or continuous. All quantitative data that take on only specific numerical...
