Glans Penis Exposure

Glans penis exposure is the condition in which the glans, normally covered by the foreskin, becomes uncovered through retraction, circumcision, or loss of foreskin tissue. Exposure changes the local physical environment by altering moisture, friction, cleansing, and contact between the glans and external microbes, while also affecting the mucosal barrier that participates in innate immune defense. In immunology and infection research, these changes provide context for studying balanitis, sexually transmitted infections, microbial colonization, and transmission risk. Understanding glans exposure also supports investigation of how anatomy, hygiene, and tissue conditions influence genital health and host-pathogen interactions.

The penis serves a dual role in sexual reproduction and urination. It consists of three main regions: the glans penis, the body, and the root, each with distinct functions and unique anatomical features. Anatomy of the Penis The glans penis, or the head, is the terminal part of the penis and houses the external urethral orifice, the exit point for urine and semen. Covered by the prepuce, or foreskin, the glans is noted for its sensitivity and plays a key role in sexual pleasure. The body of the...

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.
