Template Stamp

Template stamping is a pattern-transfer method that reproduces a defined microscopic or macroscopic design on a surface, providing spatial control over experimental materials. In a typical process, a stamp is formed from a template, coated with an ink such as a biomolecule or reagent, and pressed against a target substrate so the patterned material transfers at controlled contact points. In immunology and infection research, this approach can organize antibodies, cells, or microbial components into reproducible layouts for imaging, binding assays, and studies of cell interactions. Its precision supports standardized experiments and helps relate spatial organization to immune recognition, adhesion, and pathogen behavior.

DNA as a Genetic Template

2020

Two structural features of the DNA molecule provide a basis for the mechanisms of heredity: the four nucleotide bases and its double-stranded nature. The Watson-Crick model of double-helical DNA structure, proposed in 1952, drew heavily upon the X-ray crystallography work of researchers Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Watson, Crick, and Wilkins jointly received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in 1962. Franklin was, controversially, excluded from the prize for...
