Automated Clustering Methods

Automated clustering methods are computational techniques that organize unlabeled observations into groups according to patterns of similarity, helping researchers identify structure in complex datasets. Depending on the algorithm, the process may iteratively assign data points to centroids, build a hierarchy of nested groups, or detect dense neighborhoods while treating dissimilar points as separate or outlying observations. In immunology and infection research, these methods can classify immune-cell populations from multiparameter or single-cell measurements, reveal infection-associated states, and support comparison of responses across samples. Their reproducible, data-driven grouping complements expert interpretation and can generate hypotheses about host defense and disease progression.

Cluster Sampling Method

2023

Appropriate sampling methods ensure that samples are drawn without bias and accurately represent the population. Because measuring the entire population in a study is not practical, researchers use samples to represent the population of interest. To choose a cluster sample, divide the population into clusters (groups) and then randomly select some of the clusters. All the members from these clusters are in the cluster sample. For example, if you randomly sample four departments from your...

A Simple Method for the Size Controlled Synthesis of Stable Oligomeric Clusters of Gold Nanoparticles under Ambient Conditions

2016

We describe a simple method for producing highly stable oligomeric clusters of gold nanoparticles via the reduction of chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) with sodium thiocyanate (NaSCN). The oligoclusters have a narrow size distribution and can be produced with a wide range of sizes and surface coats.

Spatial Separation of Molecular Conformers and Clusters

2014

We present a technique that allows the spatial separation of different conformers or clusters present in a molecular beam. An electrostatic deflector is used to separate species by their mass-to-dipole moment ratio, leading to the production of gas-phase ensembles of a single conformer or cluster stoichiometry.

Automating Tumor Implantation in Zebrafish Larvae for Cancer Research and Medicine

Here, we present a detailed protocol for automated tumor xenograft implantation into zebrafish larvae using a state-of-the-art robotic injection system. Furthermore, we present injection videos and validation data demonstrating the system's successful performance.

Automated Acoustic Dispensing for the Serial Dilution of Peptide Agonists in Potency Determination Assays

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.
