Fractional Forms

Fractional forms are ways of representing a quantity as a ratio of integers, typically with a numerator above a nonzero denominator, and they provide an exact language for parts of wholes and rational numbers. A fraction can be rewritten without changing its value by multiplying or dividing both numerator and denominator by the same nonzero number; this principle supports simplification, conversion between improper fractions and mixed numbers, and relationships with decimals and percentages. In mathematics, these forms help compare quantities, perform arithmetic, model proportions, and interpret rates, while providing a precise basis for algebraic expressions, measurement, probability, and quantitative reasoning.

Fractional Distillation

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Leadbeater — University of Connecticut Distillation is perhaps the most common laboratory technique employed by chemists for the purification of organic liquids. Compounds in a mixture with different boiling points separate into individual components when the mixture is carefully distilled. The two main types of distillation are "simple distillation" and "fractional distillation", and both are widely used in organic chemistry laboratories. Simple distillation...

Point-Slope Form

2026

Point-slope form is a method for expressing the equation of a straight line when its slope and the coordinates of one point on the line are known. It is particularly useful because it directly connects the slope, which describes the line’s rate of change, with a specific point through which the line passes. The slope of a line measures how much the vertical coordinate changes relative to a change in the horizontal coordinate. A positive slope shows that y increases as x increases, while a...

2009

The accompanying video describes the use of the GELFREE 8100 Fractionation System, which partitions complex protein samples on the basis of molecular weight and recovers the fractions in liquid phase. The video describes how the technology works, how it is used, and provides resultant data, with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis of fractionated bovine liver homogenate.

Purification of the Dendritic Filopodia-rich Fraction

2019

In this protocol, we introduce a method for purifying the dendritic filopodia-rich fraction from the phagocytic cup-like protrusion structure on cultured hippocampal neurons by taking advantage of the specific and strong affinity between a dendritic filopodial adhesion molecule, TLCN, and an extracellular matrix molecule, vitronectin.

Preparation of Subcellular Fractions from Leukemic Cells: A Method to Generate Cellular and Nuclear Fractions from Leukemic Cells
