Uv Plane

The UV plane is a two-dimensional coordinate system in which each point is represented by an ordered pair (u, v), extending the familiar Cartesian plane with alternative coordinate labels. The horizontal u-axis and vertical v-axis intersect at the origin, allowing positions, vectors, curves, and regions to be described through signed coordinates and analyzed with equations, distance formulas, and transformations. In mathematics, the UV plane supports geometric modeling, parameterized functions, coordinate changes, and graphical interpretation of relationships between variables. It also provides a foundation for studying mappings between planes and for representing data or abstract mathematical structures in a clear visual form.

Absorbance When light interacts with a substance, a portion of the light is absorbed while the rest is either reflected or transmitted through it. Substances that we perceive as having a color reflect light in the visible range. The color of the substance that we are able to see depends on which wavelength of light is reflected. A substance that we perceive as blue reflects light in the blue range (430 – 480 nm) of the visible spectrum. According to the color wheel, the same substance absorbs...

Source: Lara Al Hariri and Ahmed Basabrain at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, MA, USA Absorbance Wavelength ComparisonExpand In the first part of the lab, you'll use ultraviolet and visible light absorption spectroscopy, or UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, to analyze the absorption characteristics of fluorescein, β-carotene, and indigo dye. To perform UV-Vis spectroscopy, you'll place a solution between a light source and a photodetector. The molecules will absorb light at...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy is one of the most popular analytical techniques because it is very versatile and able to detect nearly every molecule. With UV-Vis spectroscopy, the UV-Vis light is passed through a sample and the transmittance of light by a sample is measured. From the transmittance (T), the absorbance can be calculated as A=-log (T). An absorbance spectrum is obtained that shows the absorbance of a...

Determining the Ice-binding Planes of Antifreeze Proteins by Fluorescence-based Ice Plane Affinity

Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) bind to specific planes of ice to prevent or slow ice growth. Fluorescence-based ice plane affinity (FIPA) analysis is a modification of the original ice-etching method for determination of AFP-bound ice planes. AFPs are fluorescently labeled, incorporated into macroscopic single ice crystals, and visualized under UV light.

Work Done Over an Inclined Plane

The center-of-mass framework helps to easily describe the work done on rigid bodies. Since the internal forces in a rigid body do no work, they can be ignored, and the external forces can be considered in the work-energy theorem. The work done by gravity to move a rigid body, or the work done by an opposing force to move a rigid body against gravity, can be calculated using the center-of-mass framework. It is the line integral of the force of gravity over the path, considered positive if...
