Athlete Monitoring

Athlete monitoring is the systematic collection and interpretation of information about an athlete’s training, recovery, health, and performance to guide safer, more effective care. It combines measures such as external workload, physiological responses, wellness reports, sleep, and injury symptoms, then compares changes over time with individual baselines to identify meaningful deviations. In sports medicine, clinicians and performance teams use these data to adjust training, recognize early signs of excessive fatigue or illness, support return-to-play decisions, and evaluate rehabilitation. When integrated with clinical assessment and athlete context, monitoring improves communication and supports individualized prevention and performance strategies.

Calling his theory dramaturgy, Goffman believed that we use “impression management” to present ourselves to others as we hope to be perceived. Each situation is a new scene, and individuals perform different roles depending on who is present (Goffman, 1959). Think about the way you...

The hamstrings are a group of muscles that are sometimes problematic for athletes, resulting in soft tissue injury in the lower limbs. To prevent such injuries, functional training of the hamstrings requires intensive eccentric contractions. Additionally, hamstring function should be tested in relation to quadricep function at different contraction speeds.

Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring

Holter monitoring is a continuous electrocardiography (ECG) recording that tracks the heart's electrical activity over an extended period, generally 24 to 48 hours. This noninvasive diagnostic tool detects irregular heart rhythms that may not be captured during a standard ECG performed in a clinical setting.DeviceThe Holter monitor is a portable, small device connected to several electrodes on the patient's chest. These electrodes detect the heart's electrical signals and transmit them to the...
