Bicycle Ergometer

A bicycle ergometer is a stationary cycle that applies a controlled workload while measuring the mechanical work performed during pedaling, making it useful for standardized assessment of physical capacity. Resistance is adjusted to set a defined workload, usually in watts, while physiological responses such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen uptake, and electrocardiographic activity are recorded as exercise intensity increases. In medicine, bicycle ergometry supports cardiopulmonary exercise testing, evaluation of functional limitations, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation monitoring. Because the workload is precisely controlled, repeated assessments can help track treatment response and changes in physical fitness.

2018

Bicyclic aziridinium ions such as 1-azoniabicyclo[4.1.0]heptane tosylate were generated from 2-[4-tolenesulfonyloxybutyl]aziridine, which was utilized for the preparation of substituted piperidines and azepanes via regio- and stereospecific ring-expansion with various nucleophiles. This highly efficient protocol allowed us to prepare diverse azaheterocycles including natural products such as fagomine, febrifugine analogue and balanol.

Diels–Alder Reaction Forming Bridged Bicyclic Products: Stereochemistry

2023

Diels–Alder reactions between cyclic dienes locked in an s-cis configuration and dienophiles yield bridged bicyclic products. Dienophiles with one or more electron-withdrawing substituents form stereochemically different products in which the substituents are oriented in an endo (towards) or exo (away) configuration relative to the double bond. The endo isomer is formed faster and is the kinetic product. The exo isomer is more stable and is the thermodynamic product.

Standardized Protocol For Monitoring Muscle Fatigue and Biomechanics In Amateur Cyclists Using Infrared Thermography

2026

Cycling biomechanics relies on efficient muscle activation and core stabilization. Infrared thermography (IRT) offers non-invasive monitoring of muscle fatigue. This protocol establishes a standardized methodology for integrating IRT into biomechanical analysis, aiming to optimize performance and prevent injury in amateur cyclists through precise physiological monitoring.

We present a protocol to test the aerobic and anaerobic power of the upper body muscles over a duration of 3 min in able-bodied as well as in paraplegic and tetraplegic individuals. The protocol presents specific modifications in its application for upper-body exercise in individuals with or without disability.

Assessment of Neuromuscular Function Using Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

We present a protocol to assess changes in neuromuscular function. Percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is a non-invasive method that evokes muscular responses. Electrophysiological and mechanical properties of these responses permit the evaluation of neuromuscular function from brain to muscle (supra-spinal, spinal and peripheral levels).
