Fluvoxamine Therapy

Fluvoxamine therapy is the use of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) fluvoxamine to manage certain mental health conditions, particularly obsessive-compulsive disorder and, in some settings, social anxiety disorder. The medication works primarily by blocking the serotonin transporter, reducing serotonin reuptake and increasing serotonin signaling between nerve cells; clinicians adjust dosing gradually according to response, tolerability, and treatment goals. Its clinical effects typically develop over time rather than immediately, and treatment may reduce intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and anxiety symptoms. Careful medical supervision is important because fluvoxamine can cause adverse effects and interact with other medicines through hepatic drug-metabolism pathways.
