Robotic Partial Nephrectomy

Robotic partial nephrectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes a kidney tumor while preserving as much healthy kidney tissue as possible. During the operation, a surgeon controls robotic instruments through small abdominal incisions, using a magnified three-dimensional view to dissect the mass, control bleeding, and close the remaining kidney tissue. This nephron-sparing approach is commonly used for selected localized renal tumors and can support preservation of renal function compared with removing the entire kidney. Understanding the technique is important in medicine because it combines surgical precision with cancer treatment and informs decisions about patient selection, operative planning, and postoperative care.

This protocol describes a robot-assisted partial splenectomy for a benign splenic tumor. The robotic approach optimizes spleen preservation by enhancing surgical precision, minimizing blood loss, and improving postoperative outcomes. Key surgical steps include meticulous splenic hilum dissection, selective vascular ligation, intraoperative ultrasonography, and controlled parenchymal transection.

This manuscript provides a detailed two-step surgical procedure to perform mouse 5/6th partial nephrectomy (PNx) with pole ligation. Four weeks after surgery, in comparison with sham-operated mice, the PNx mice developed impaired renal function, anemia, cardiac hypertrophy, cardiac fibrosis, and decreased heart systolic and diastolic function.
