Indigo Carmine Injection

Indigo Carmine Injection is a diagnostic medication containing a blue dye used in medicine to make specific tissues, fluid pathways, or anatomical structures easier to see during clinical evaluation and surgery. After intravenous administration, the kidneys rapidly excrete indigo carmine into the urine, producing visible blue coloration that helps clinicians identify ureteral openings and assess urinary tract patency. This visual contrast supports intraoperative localization, detection of urinary tract injury or obstruction, and confirmation of organ function when direct visualization is difficult. Its use demonstrates how selective distribution and excretion of a dye can provide real-time anatomical information without relying solely on imaging.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.

After neural tube formation, the neuroepithelium constricts and folds while the tube fills with embryonic cerebrospinal fluid (eCSF) to form the embryonic brain ventricles. We developed this ventricle injection technique to better visualize the fluid filled space in contrast to the neuroepithelial shape in a live embryo.
