Linear Stapler Surgery

Linear stapler surgery is a surgical technique that uses a handheld device to place one or more straight rows of staples across tissue, enabling rapid closure, division, or reconstruction during an operation. The stapler compresses the tissue and deploys staggered staples that form secure lines while an integrated blade may divide tissue between or adjacent to them, depending on the device design. Surgeons use linear staplers in procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and other soft tissues, including tissue transection and creation of anastomoses. By standardizing closure and reducing manual suturing, the technique can support procedural efficiency and consistent tissue handling when appropriately selected and applied.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is performed to treat obesity and diabetes. However, the mechanisms underlying RYGB's efficacy are not fully understood, and studies are limited by technical difficulty leading to high mortality in animal models. This article provides instructions on how to perform RYGB in rats with high success rates.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.

The accuracy and sensitivity of protein determination by the rapid and convenient Bradford assay is compromised by intrinsic nonlinearity. We show a simple linearization procedure that greatly increases the accuracy, improves the sensitivity of the assay about 10-fold, and significantly reduces interference by detergents.

University of Notre Dame, IN The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals1 dictates that rodent survival surgery be performed aseptically. Aseptic technique utilizes specific practices that minimize the contamination of the surgical site, including patient preparation, surgeon preparation, sterilization of instruments and other supplies, and the use of a clean and controlled environment. Presurgical planning,...
