Muscular Exhaustion Induction

Muscular Exhaustion Induction is a controlled experimental approach used to produce temporary muscle fatigue for evaluating neuromuscular function and physical performance. It typically involves repeated or sustained contractions performed until a target muscle can no longer maintain a prescribed force, movement, or workload, creating a measurable decline in output. In medicine, this approach helps researchers assess muscle strength, endurance, fatigue, and recovery, while supporting investigations of neuromuscular disorders, rehabilitation strategies, exercise responses, and therapeutic interventions. Standardized induction protocols also improve comparisons among participants and help identify changes in muscle performance over time.

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University In the troposphere, ozone is naturally formed when sunlight splits nitrogen dioxide (NO2): NO2 + sunlight → NO + O O + O2 → O3 Ozone (O3) can go on to react with nitric oxide (NO) to form nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and oxygen: NO + O3 → NO2 + O2 This results in no net gain of ozone (O3). However, with the anthropogenic production of ozone forming precursors (NO, NO2, and volatile organic compounds) through the combustion...

The Muscular System

2024

The muscular system is essential to the body's overall structure and function, playing a crucial role in movement, stability, and internal processes. It consists of three distinct types of muscle tissue: the skeletal, the smooth, and the cardiac muscles. Skeletal Muscles: These muscles are under our conscious control and enable movement. They are attached to bones by tendons, and their contraction and relaxation allow us to move. Additionally, they generate heat during physical activity,...

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

We present a method for microfluidic deposition of patterned genipin and fibronectin on PDMS substrates, allowing extended viability of vascular smooth muscle cell-dense tissues. This tissue fabrication method is combined with previous vascular muscular thin film technology to measure vascular contractility over disease-relevant time courses.
