Nutrient Vessel Repair

Nutrient vessel repair is a surgical approach that restores blood flow through vessels supplying living tissues, particularly the nutrient arteries that support bone viability and healing. The procedure typically involves identifying injured vessel ends, re-establishing their alignment, and creating a patent connection so oxygenated blood can reach the tissue and venous drainage can continue. In medicine, this repair can support recovery after fractures, orthopedic trauma, or reconstructive procedures in which vascular damage threatens tissue survival. Preserving or restoring nutrient blood supply may improve healing, reduce ischemic complications, and inform strategies for tissue repair and microsurgical reconstruction.

Nutrients in Aquatic Ecosystems

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Nitrogen and phosphorus are essential plant nutrients found in aquatic ecosystems and both are monitored as a part of water quality testing because in excess amounts they can cause significant water quality problems. Nitrogen in water is measured as the common form nitrate (NO3-) that is dissolved in water and readily absorbed by photosynthesizers such as algae. The common form of phosphorus measured is phosphate...

This article describes a method for creating a mechanical vessel injury in zebrafish embryos. This injury model provides a platform for studying hemostasis, injury-related inflammation, and wound healing in an organism ideally suited for real-time microscopy.

Soil Nutrient Analysis: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University In this experiment, three soil macronutrients are chemically extracted, combined with color-based reagents, then analyzed using color to determine the nutrient concentration present in the soil sample. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the main components of soil fertilizer. These methods isolate each nutrient from the soil into a solution that can be analyzed using turbidity and color to determine the...
