Osteoporosis Prevention

Osteoporosis prevention comprises strategies that preserve bone strength and reduce the risk of fractures caused by low bone density and deteriorated bone structure. Bone is continuously renewed through remodeling, so adequate calcium and vitamin D, regular weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening activity, and avoidance of tobacco and excessive alcohol help support bone formation and mineralization while limiting bone loss. In medicine, prevention also includes assessing age, family history, medications, falls, and other risk factors, with bone-density testing and targeted treatment when appropriate. These measures are especially important before and after peak bone mass, helping maintain mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Small laboratory fish have become popular models for bone research on the mechanisms underlying human bone disorders and for the screening of bone-modulating drugs. In this report, we describe a protocol to assess the effect of alendronate on bone cells in medaka larvae with osteoporotic lesions.

Cancer Prevention

Several factors can increase the risk of cancer in an individual. About 50% of cancer cases can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, eating healthy, and following a modest cancer prevention diet. Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that populations with vegetable and fruit-rich diets have reduced the incidence of cancer. On the other hand, populations who have a diet rich in animal fat, red meat, junk food, or high calories are predisposed to cancer. Some...

Preventive healthcare services keep people healthy via frequent check-ups, screening, and counseling. They primarily aid in disease prevention rather than treating an acute or chronic illness. Preventive treatment also keeps individuals productive and energetic, allowing them to work well into their retirement years. Examples of preventive care services include: • Adult screening for blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes • Cancer screenings such as colonoscopies and mammograms
