Pancreaticoduodenectomy Outcomes

Pancreaticoduodenectomy outcomes are the clinical results observed after Whipple surgery, a complex operation that removes the pancreatic head, duodenum, gallbladder, and often part of the bile duct before reconstruction. They are assessed through measures such as postoperative complications, pancreatic fistula, delayed gastric emptying, mortality, length of hospital stay, recovery of function, and long-term survival. Outcomes reflect the interaction of disease biology, patient health, surgical technique, and perioperative care, making them important for evaluating treatment quality and comparing approaches. In medicine, outcome analysis supports risk counseling, hospital quality improvement, patient selection, and research on safer procedures and improved care for pancreatic and periampullary disease.

2026

Here, we present the stent-bridging pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) technique, which uses a stent to bridge the remnant pancreas to the stomach during open pancreaticoduodenectomy. The stent-bridging PG aims to simplify the anastomosis, achieve complete diversion of pancreatic juice, and minimize manipulation of the pancreatic remnant.

Complete resection of the uncinate process and mesopancreas is one of the most important and difficult processes in laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy (LPD). This article presents a method for managing the uncinate process in no-touch LPD using the median-anterior and left-posterior approaches to the superior mesenteric artery (SMA).
