Prognostic Tools

Prognostic tools are clinical methods used to estimate the likely course, outcomes, or risks of a disease in an individual patient. They combine information such as diagnosis, disease stage, symptoms, laboratory results, imaging findings, treatment response, and patient characteristics to generate a risk estimate or outcome prediction. Clinicians use statistical models, validated scoring systems, biomarkers, and prediction algorithms to support shared decision-making, tailor follow-up, and compare potential treatment strategies. In medicine, these tools can help identify patients who may need more intensive monitoring or intervention, while highlighting the uncertainty that accompanies predictions and the importance of validating models across diverse patient populations.
