Respiratory Exercises

Respiratory exercises are structured practices that modify breathing patterns to improve ventilation, respiratory muscle function, and control of breathlessness, making them relevant to both health maintenance and clinical care. They work by regulating the rate, depth, and timing of inhalation and exhalation, often emphasizing diaphragmatic movement, prolonged expiration, or coordinated breathing with physical activity. In medicine, these exercises support pulmonary rehabilitation and may help patients manage symptoms associated with respiratory disorders, recover after illness or surgery, and improve exercise tolerance. Their effects can be assessed through breathing efficiency, symptom reports, and functional performance.
