Semicircular Canal Testing

Semicircular canal testing is a group of vestibular assessments that evaluates how the inner-ear canals detect head rotation and support balance, gaze stability, and spatial orientation. These tests stimulate or measure the semicircular canals through controlled head movements, temperature changes in the ear, or rotational motion, while clinicians record eye movements produced by the vestibulo-ocular reflex. Results can reveal reduced or asymmetric canal function and help distinguish peripheral vestibular disorders from other causes of dizziness. In medicine, semicircular canal testing supports the diagnosis, monitoring, and rehabilitation planning of conditions such as unilateral vestibular weakness, vertigo, and balance dysfunction.

Balance and Coordination Testing

2023

Balance and coordination are critical components involved in the control of movement. Many sensory receptors and neural processing units are required to help individuals maintain balance while performing various activities. Deficits in balance and coordination occur in patients suffering from movement disorders or due to aging. Therefore, scientists are trying to understand the pathophysiology behind these conditions. One way to do that is by using rodent models and testing them on behavioral...

Capturing Flow-weighted Water and Suspended Particulates from Agricultural Canals During Drainage Events
