Spermatic Nerve Block

A spermatic nerve block is a targeted regional anesthetic procedure that reduces pain signals from the testis, epididymis, and spermatic cord, supporting evaluation and treatment of scrotal pain. The clinician injects local anesthetic around the spermatic cord, often with ultrasound guidance, to temporarily interrupt sensory transmission through the genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve and associated nerve fibers. In medicine, the block can help distinguish nerve-mediated orchialgia from other causes, provide short-term relief during painful procedures, and help predict whether longer-lasting interventions may benefit patients with chronic scrotal pain. Its response can also guide subsequent diagnosis and management.

(2018)This video demonstrates a canine model for inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) regeneration using a biodegradable scaffold and ethanol-induced sympathetic blockade. The procedure involves surgically accessing the cervical sympathetic ganglion and injecting ethanol to induce vasodilation. The resulting...

Source: Lee, Y. F., et al. An Ultrasonic Tool for Nerve Conduction Block in Diabetic Rat Models. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This video demonstrates the use of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to block action potentials from the sciatic nerve to the gastrocnemius muscle in a diabetic rat model. Upon delivering the HIFU beam to the nerve, a decrease in muscle signal confirms HIFU's potential as a non-invasive therapy for diabetic neuropathic pain relief.

We evaluated the effect of cervical sympathetic ganglion block on nerve repair using artificial nerve conduits. Male beagle dogs were each implanted with an artificial nerve across a 10-mm gap in the left inferior alveolar nerve; left cervical sympathetic ganglion was blocked by injecting 99.5% ethanol via lateral thoracotomy.

In this study, we describe an improved protocol for a multiplexed high-throughput antibody microarray with lectin detection method that can be used in glycosylation profiling of specific proteins. This protocol features new reliable reagents and significantly reduces the time, cost, and lab equipment requirements as compared to the previous procedure.
