Staged Management

Staged management is a medical approach that organizes assessment and treatment into sequential phases, allowing care to change as a patient’s condition evolves. Clinicians begin with an initial evaluation and appropriate intervention, then use repeated monitoring, diagnostic findings, and treatment response to decide whether to continue, modify, escalate, or reduce care. This framework can support the management of acute illness, chronic disease, rehabilitation, and complex procedures while avoiding unnecessary intervention and addressing urgent risks promptly. By linking clinical decisions to defined stages and patient outcomes, staged management promotes individualized care, clearer coordination among healthcare professionals, and more systematic evaluation of treatment effectiveness.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Stages of Sleep

2024

Sleep progresses through distinct stages, each characterized by specific brain wave patterns and physiological responses ranging from wakefulness to stages of non-rapid eye movement, known as non-REM, to rapid eye movement, referred to as REM. Understanding these stages helps in recognizing how sleep supports various bodily and cognitive functions. Before sleep begins, in wakefulness, the brain exhibits primarily beta waves, which are high in frequency and low in amplitude, indicating alertness...

Stages of General Anesthesia

Various sedation levels offer significant advantages in facilitating procedural interventions for patients undergoing medical or invasive surgical procedures. These levels span from anxiolysis to general anesthesia, providing a spectrum of sedative effects to cater to specific patient needs. Anxiolysis reduces anxiety and is achieved through minimal sedation, enabling patients to remain awake and responsive while feeling more at ease during the procedure. This level can benefit minor...

The article describes a protocol to generate zebrafish embryos through natural mating and sorting their developmental stages. The protocol is used further for analysis of pancreatic β-cells by using transgenic fishes.

Stages of Infection

Stages of infection describe what happens to a susceptible host once a pathogen invades the human body. The stages of infection are incubation, prodromal, illness, stage of decline, and convalescence. The incubation stage is the period from exposure to a pathogen until symptoms start. The infected person is unaware of impending illness as the pathogens grow and multiply within the body. The duration may vary depending on the type of infection. The incubation period of measles averages ten to...
