Stapes Artery Preservation

Stapes Artery Preservation is an otologic surgical strategy that protects the small artery associated with the stapes, particularly when an embryonic persistent stapedial artery remains in the middle ear. Preservation requires recognizing the vessel’s course near the stapes and oval window, then avoiding unnecessary traction, cautery, or transection while operating on the ossicular chain. Maintaining this vascular structure can reduce intraoperative bleeding and help protect nearby auditory and facial nerve anatomy. The principle is especially relevant during stapes surgery, congenital middle-ear procedures, and repair of conductive hearing loss, where accurate anatomical identification supports safer operative planning and better preservation of middle-ear function.

Innovative Strategies for Organ Preservation in Heart Transplantation: Uniform Cooling Preservation and Ex-situ Normothermic Perfusion

2025

Donor heart preservation is a major determinant of success in heart transplantation. Technological advances have led to optimizing the conditions of preservation, along with a more accurate assessment of the donor heart before transplantation. We herein describe two innovative technologies currently applied for cardiac preservation: uniform cooling preservation and normothermic ex-situ heart perfusion.

Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.
