Uterine Volume

Uterine volume is the three-dimensional size of the uterus, a clinically useful measurement for assessing anatomy, growth, and structural change. It is estimated from imaging studies such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging by measuring uterine dimensions and applying a geometric volume calculation, while recognizing that shape may not be perfectly regular. In medicine, uterine volume helps characterize developmental differences, monitor changes during pregnancy, and evaluate conditions including fibroids, adenomyosis, and other causes of uterine enlargement. Repeated measurements can support diagnosis, treatment planning, and assessment of response to therapy.

Uterine Tubes

2024

The uterine or fallopian tubes function as the conduit through which oocytes travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Each fallopian tube measures approximately 10 to 13 cm long and is anatomically divided into the infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and interstitial part (or intramural segment). The infundibulum is characterized by its funnel shape and features extensions called fimbriae which reach towards the peritoneal cavity. These fimbriae play a critical role during ovulation as they extend...

Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri

2025

Here, we introduce a novel approach-Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri. A laparoscopic extracorporeal knot-pusher is used to perform cervical cerclage, achieving complete occlusion of uterine arteries. Thereafter, the corpus uteri are excised to enhance visibility and facilitate the operative field.

Constant Volume Calorimetry

2020

Calorimeters are useful to determine the heat released or absorbed by a chemical reaction. Coffee cup calorimeters are designed to operate at constant (atmospheric) pressure and are convenient to measure heat flow (or enthalpy change) accompanying processes that occur in solution at constant pressure. A different type of calorimeter that operates at constant volume, colloquially known as a bomb calorimeter, is used to measure the energy produced by reactions that yield large amounts of heat and...
