Contour Tracking Algorithms

Contour tracking algorithms are computational methods that detect and follow the boundaries of objects or regions across images or video, converting changing visual structure into measurable shapes. They typically begin with intensity or edge information, then update a contour model as each frame changes, using constraints such as smoothness, continuity, or motion to resist noise and preserve the target boundary. In neuroscience, these methods can quantify neuronal morphology, delineate brain regions in microscopy or imaging data, and monitor structural changes over time. Reliable contour tracking supports automated image analysis, reduces manual annotation, and improves reproducibility in studies of neural structure and dynamics.

Topographic Surveying and Contours

2025

Topographic surveying is critical for documenting the Earth's surface, focusing on capturing elevations, slopes, and natural and man-made features. It is essential in construction planning, water resource management, and land-use analysis. The primary outcome of such surveys is a topographic map, which uses contour lines to visually represent the shape and slope of the terrain, providing valuable insights into the landscape's characteristics.Contour lines are fundamental to understanding the...

Level Curves and Contour Maps

Level curves and contour maps provide a way to visualize functions of two variables on a two-dimensional plane. A useful example is a topographic map, where curved lines represent locations that share the same elevation. In mathematics, these curves are called level curves or contour lines. Each contour line corresponds to points in the domain where the function has a constant value. For a function of two variables written as z = f(x,y), a level curve is defined by the equation f(x,y) = k,...

2015

Stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SBRT) involves the precise delivery of high-dose radiation to cancer tumor targets. A novel SBRT platform offers a first-of-its-kind gimbaled radiation accelerator mounted within a pivoting O-ring gantry capable of dynamic image-guided tumor tracking. Here, we describe dynamic tumor tracking for lung targets.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...
