Ct Image Registration

CT image registration is the computational alignment of two or more computed tomography scans into a common coordinate system, enabling accurate comparison of anatomy across time, patients, or imaging sessions. The process estimates a spatial transformation, often rigid for head positioning or deformable for anatomical changes, by matching image intensities, structural features, or identified landmarks. In neuroscience, CT registration supports integration with magnetic resonance imaging, localization of lesions and implanted devices, surgical navigation, and monitoring of disease progression or treatment effects. Reliable alignment improves anatomical interpretation and quantitative analysis while helping clinicians and researchers relate structural changes to neurological function.

Source: Chaney, A. M., et.al. PET Imaging of Neuroinflammation Using [11C]DPA-713 in a Mouse Model of Ischemic Stroke. J. Vis. Exp. (2018). This video demonstrates a technique for in vivo imaging of neuroinflammation in a mouse model of ischemic stroke using a TSPO-specific radiotracer. Following injection, the radiotracer binds to TSPO, a protein located on the outer mitochondrial membrane and overexpressed in activated immune cells. A PET/CT scanner detects the radiotracer's distribution and...

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut It's a little-known fact that the discovery and (inadvertent) use of X-rays garnered the first ever Nobel Prize in Physics. The famous X-ray image of Dr. Röntgen's wife's hand from 1895 that sent shock waves through the scientific community looks like most modern day 2D medical X-ray images. Though it is not the newest technology, X-ray absorption...
