Rat Surgical Technique

Rat surgical technique refers to the standardized procedures used to perform controlled operations in rats, particularly when researchers need to access, alter, or monitor nervous system structures. These procedures rely on anesthesia, aseptic preparation, precise positioning, careful tissue handling, and postoperative monitoring to reduce physiological stress and improve experimental consistency. In neuroscience, rat surgery supports intracranial injections, electrode or cannula placement, lesion studies, and collection of neural tissue for molecular or anatomical analysis. Consistent technique helps link surgical interventions with behavioral, electrophysiological, and cellular outcomes while promoting animal welfare and reproducible research.
