Surgical Forceps Application

Surgical forceps application is the controlled use of hinged instruments to grasp, stabilize, retract, or manipulate tissue and surgical materials, supporting precise work in clinical and laboratory settings. By closing opposing jaws around a target, forceps transmit measured compressive force while allowing the operator to maintain visibility and control; jaw shape, tip size, and applied pressure determine how securely and gently the target is handled. In neuroscience, careful forceps use supports neuroanatomical dissection, neurosurgical exposure, and manipulation of delicate neural tissues or materials. Proper technique can improve precision, reduce unintended tissue disturbance, and promote reproducible experimental and clinical outcomes.

We describe the simplest protocol to prepare biodegradable medical glue that has an effective hemostatic ability. TAPE is a water-immiscible supramolecular aggregate prepared by mixing of tannic acid, a ubiquitous compound found in plants, and poly(ethylene) glycol, yielding a 2.5 times greater water-resistant adhesion compared with commercial fibrin glue.

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Surgery is the gold standard for accessible arteriovenious malformations (AVMs), and pre-operative embolization can simplify this procedure. We describe our approach for staged endovascular embolization and open resection of AVMs, and provide a representative clinical example highlighting the advantages of a comprehensively trained neurovascular surgeon leading a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
