Withdrawal Induced Changes

Withdrawal-induced changes are physiological and behavioral adaptations that emerge when repeated exposure to a drug or other stimulus is reduced or stopped, making them central to understanding dependence and addiction. In neuroscience, chronic exposure alters neurotransmitter release, receptor sensitivity, and signaling within reward, stress, and arousal circuits; removal of the stimulus can therefore produce a temporary imbalance that drives withdrawal symptoms. Researchers study these changes through behavioral assays, neurochemical measurements, and brain-imaging methods to identify mechanisms underlying craving, tolerance, and relapse. This knowledge supports the development of treatments that stabilize neural function, reduce withdrawal severity, and improve long-term recovery.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Blood collection is a common requirement for research studies that involve mice and rats. The method of blood withdrawal in mice and rats is dependent upon the volume of blood needed, the frequency of the sampling, the health status of the animal to be bled, and the skill level of the technician. All methods discussed-retro-orbital sinus bleeds, initial tail snip bleeds, and intracardiac...

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN The collection of blood from mice and rats for analysis can be done through a variety of methods. Each method of collection has variations in the type of restraint required, the invasiveness of the procedure, and the necessity of a general anesthetic.1Historically, the use of the retro-orbital sinus cavity has been used, but not without debate. The controversy related to the potential tissue...

When a partner withdraws from a partnership, the payment may differ from the partner's capital account balance. Under the bonus method, this difference is treated as a bonus and recorded by adjusting the capital accounts of the remaining partners without revaluing the partnership's assets. If the retiring partner receives more than the capital account balance, the excess is a bonus to the retiring partner. The remaining partners' capital accounts are reduced according to their profit and loss...

Intrathecal Placement of Lumbar Drain: A Technique to Withdraw Cerebrospinal Fluid from the Lumbar Spine in Porcine Model

2025

This video describes the technique of intrathecal placement of a lumbar drain in a porcine ischemic model, which helps in draining the cerebrospinal fluid to a drainage system. The cerebrospinal fluid pressure is monitored by the drainage system, and fluid is drained to maintain a constant cerebrospinal fluid pressure.
