Agricultural Chemicals

Agricultural chemicals are substances used to support crop production and protect plants, including pesticides, fertilizers, and growth regulators, making their safe and effective use important to food systems and public health. In pharmacology, researchers examine how these compounds interact with biological targets, enter and move through organisms, undergo metabolic transformation, and are eliminated, while evaluating dose-dependent effects and toxicity. This framework helps assess pesticide efficacy, animal and human exposure, residue persistence, and potential effects on non-target species. Pharmacological analysis therefore informs safer product design, regulatory decisions, exposure management, and the development of agricultural practices that balance productivity with environmental and health protection.

A protocol involving integrated concentration, enrichment, and end-point colorimetric detection of foodborne pathogens in large volumes of agricultural water is presented here. Water is filtered through Modified Moore Swabs (MMS), enriched with selective or non-selective media, and detection is performed using paper-based analytical devices (µPAD) imbedded with bacterial-indicative colorimetric substrates.
