Dronedarone Food Interaction

Dronedarone food interaction describes how meals and certain beverages alter the absorption and exposure of dronedarone, an antiarrhythmic medication used to help maintain sinus rhythm. Taking dronedarone with a meal, particularly one containing fat, substantially increases gastrointestinal absorption compared with administration while fasting, so consistent dosing with morning and evening meals supports predictable drug levels. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice may further raise dronedarone concentrations by inhibiting intestinal CYP3A-mediated metabolism and should generally be avoided. Understanding these interactions helps optimize therapeutic exposure, reduce concentration-related adverse effects, and guide safe medication counseling in pharmacology and clinical practice.

Pharmacokinetics: Drug–Food and Drug–Viral Interactions

2025

A drug interaction occurs when the concurrent use of another drug, food, or an external substance alters the pharmacological activity of a drug. This interaction can modify the action of the original drug, affecting its effectiveness and safety.Drug–food interactions are significant as they impact drug absorption, metabolism, and excretion. For example, grapefruit juice is a well-known disruptor of drug metabolism. It inhibits the cytochrome P450 3A4 enzyme, crucial for the metabolism of many...

Testing For Genetically Modified Foods

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Genetic modification of foods has been a controversial issue due to debated concerns over health and environmental safety. This experiment demonstrates technical understanding of how food DNA is genetically identified, allowing for educated decision making about the safety and potential dangers of using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food supplies. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is used to amplify food DNA...

A Complex Diving-For-Food Task to Investigate Social Organization and Interactions in Rats

2021

This protocol describes a method of examining social hierarchy in a rat model. Rats perform a complex diving-for-food task in which they form a distinct hierarchy according to their willingness to dive underwater and swim to obtain a food pellet. This method is used to understand decision making and social relationships among highly social animals in small groups.

A Treatment Package without Escape Extinction to Address Food Selectivity

Feeding difficulties are a common problem for children with developmental disorders, including autism, and behavioral interventions often include escape extinction. Recent research has begun to evaluate treatments that do not include escape extinction. This manuscript describes a multicomponent treatment package that does not use escape extinction to treat feeding difficulties.
