Isobaric Process

An isobaric process is a thermodynamic change that occurs at constant pressure, allowing a system to exchange heat and perform work while its state changes. For an ideal gas, maintaining pressure as temperature changes requires the volume to vary proportionally, and heat transfer alters internal energy while expansion or compression produces pressure–volume work. This process provides a useful model for analyzing gas behavior in pistons, open atmospheric systems, and laboratory experiments. In physics, isobaric analysis applies the first law of thermodynamics to connect heat, work, temperature, and volume, helping researchers and students compare energy transformations across different thermodynamic conditions.

A thermodynamic process that occurs at constant volume is called an isochoric process. According to the first law of thermodynamics, heat supplied or removed from the system is partially utilized to perform work and change the internal energy of the system. However, in an isochoric process, the volume remains constant. Hence, the work done by the system is zero. Therefore, the exchange of heat changes the internal energy of the system only. Suppose 1000 g of water is heated from 40 degrees...

Combined precursor isotopic labeling and isobaric tagging (cPILOT) is an enhanced sample multiplexing strategy that is capable of increasing the number of samples that can be analyzed simultaneously with available isobaric tags. Incorporation of a robotic platform has greatly increased experimental throughput, reproducibility, and quantitative accuracy.

Processes at Electrodes

The electrode interacts with ions in the electrolyte solution at its interface. The rate of oxidation and reduction depends on the speed at which electrons can transfer through this interface. As ions attach to or leave the electrode surface, the electrode acquires a charge, and an electrical potential forms across the interface, making the process more difficult to reach equilibrium. The charge on the electrode affects the local ion concentrations in the solution, though thermal motion...

A thermodynamic process that occurs at constant temperature is called an isothermal process. Heat slowly flows into the system or out of the system to maintain thermal equilibrium. Processes involving phase changes like water evaporation into steam or freezing water into ice at a constant temperature are examples of Isothermal Processes. An ideal gas can also undergo isothermal expansion or compression. For example, consider 1 mole of an ideal gas inside an isolated cylinder at initial volume V...
