Choice Dilemma

Choice dilemma is a psychology paradigm used to examine how people make decisions when alternatives involve competing risks, benefits, and uncertain outcomes. In a typical task, individuals recommend a minimum probability of success before choosing a risky option, then discuss the scenario in a group; discussion can shift the consensus toward a more cautious or riskier position, a process associated with group polarization and persuasive arguments. Researchers use choice dilemmas to study social influence, risk perception, conformity, and collective decision-making. Findings help explain how group discussion shapes judgments in settings such as organizations, education, and public policy.

The prisoner's dilemma is a classic game theory model where two crime suspects must decide whether to betray each other or cooperatively remain silent.
