Neural Basis

The neural basis refers to the biological processes in the brain and nervous system that produce psychological functions, including perception, learning, emotion, and behavior. Neural circuits communicate through electrical signals and chemical synaptic transmission, while changes in neurotransmitter activity, connectivity, and synaptic strength support information processing and neural plasticity. Studying these mechanisms connects psychology with neuroscience by explaining how biological activity shapes mental experience and behavior. This knowledge informs research on cognition, development, and decision-making, and supports the study of neurological and psychiatric conditions by identifying how altered neural function can affect psychological outcomes.

We describe a method to record motor activity, timed to the electrically recorded tarsal contact signal in a tethered insect, walking on a slippery surface. This is used to study the neural basis of adaptive behavior under reduced influence of mechanical interaction between legs through the substrate.

Accrual Basis of Accounting

2025

Accrual basis accounting records revenues and expenses when they are earned or incurred, regardless of when the associated cash is received or paid. This approach emphasizes the economic substance of transactions, aligning financial reporting with the actual timing of business activity rather than the cash flow timeline. Accrual accounting provides a comprehensive and consistent view of financial performance by recognizing income when goods or services are delivered and expenses when they...

Cash Basis of Accounting

2025

The cash basis of accounting records revenues and expenses strictly based on the timing of cash transactions. Under this approach, income is recognized only when cash is received, and expenses are recorded only when payments are made. This method deviates from accrual accounting, which recognizes revenues when earned and expenses when incurred, regardless of cash movement. The primary appeal of the cash basis lies in its simplicity. It suits small businesses, sole proprietors, and service-based...

Here we present a protocol to induce activity-based anorexia (ABA) in female adolescent mice. ABA is a condition of hyperactivity evoked by imposing food restriction on rodents with access to a running wheel. This phenomenon is being used as a model to study the underlying neurobiology of anorexia nervosa.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) refer to cells which can self-renew and differentiate into the three neural lineages. Here, we describe a protocol to determine NSC frequency in a given cell population using neurosphere formation and differentiation under clonal conditions.
