Sexual Motivation

Sexual motivation is the set of biological, psychological, and social processes that influence sexual interest, desire, and behavior. In psychology, it arises through interactions among hormonal activity, reward and arousal systems, personal experiences, emotions, relationships, and situational context, while cognitive appraisals and cultural norms shape how motivation is expressed. Researchers examine sexual motivation to understand individual differences, relationship dynamics, and changes across the lifespan. This knowledge supports the assessment of sexual well-being and the development of informed approaches to concerns involving desire, arousal, communication, and consent.
