Universal Expressions

Universal expressions are facial, vocal, or bodily signals thought to communicate basic emotional states across diverse cultures, making them important for studying human communication and social perception. In psychology, researchers examine whether emotions such as happiness, fear, anger, sadness, surprise, and disgust produce recognizable patterns that observers can identify despite differences in language and cultural experience. These expressions arise through coordinated changes in facial muscles, posture, voice, and attention, although cultural display rules can shape when and how people show them. Studying universal expressions informs research on emotion, empathy, social interaction, intercultural communication, and conditions that affect emotional recognition.

Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation

2023

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Legend states that Isaac Newton saw an apple fall from a tree. He noticed the acceleration of the apple and deduced that there must have been a force acting upon the apple. He then surmised that if gravity can act at the top of the tree, it can also act at even larger distances. He observed the motion of the moon and the orbits of the...

Light from astronomical objects must travel through the earth's turbulent atmosphere before it can be imaged by ground-based telescopes. To enable direct imaging at maximum theoretical angular resolution, advanced techniques such as those employed by the Robo-AO adaptive-optics system must be used.

This procedure describes a quick and easy workflow to introduce siRNA into difficult to transfect cell lines and follow gene expression by real-time PCR. Use of an automated cell counter, multi-well electroporation plate, and automated electrophoresis station provide quick and reliable results without the need for expensive robotic handling.

Qualitative and Quantitative Validation of Tools with Rating Scales Aimed at Assessing the Quality of University Service-Learning

2017

Methods for generating large-scale gRNA libraries should be simple, efficient and cost-effective. We describe a protocol for the production of gRNA libraries based on enzymatic digestion of target DNA. This method, CORALINA (comprehensive gRNA library generation through controlled nuclease activity) presents an alternative to costly custom oligonucleotide synthesis.
