Biography

Anja Schmidt-Christensen has gained her PhD in molecular Parasitology at the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. After her training as immunologist and working with advanced imaging methods in the field of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity for many years, she has recently been recruited to the Diabetes complications Unit at the Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC). A current goal is to establish an approach that can be used for identifying structural and molecular changes as biomarkers for diabetic complications (incl. liver fibrosis) in a more efficient manner than conventional imaging techniques, and that could be adopted as more refined tools for monitoring therapy effects in pre-clinical testing of drug candidates as well as in clinical staging of human patient biopsies.
