The most successful metal implant materials currently have relatively smooth surfaces on the micron size scale, with most failures occurring after only 10 years. To move beyond this limiting time scale, texturing methods have been developed to modify the metal surface to enhance integration of the implant directly with surrounding bone. A flexible single-step ultrafast-laser texturing process has been developed that results in a surface texture that exhibits micron scale peaks and troughs with superimposed submicron and nano-scale features. The textured titanium samples remain completely hydrophilic with no measurable contact angle even after several weeks in normal atmosphere. An increase in mesenchymal stem cell number is observed over that on an untreated control titanium surface. Extensive formation of cellular bridges by stromal cells between pillars shows the favorable response of differentiated cells to the surface and the promotion of their attachment. Expression of the alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin genes in human bone marrow cells were seen to increase on the textured surface. The development of this single-step method for creating micron, submicron, and nano-scale surface texture directly on metals makes a significant contribution to the goal of improving the integration and life span of joint replacement implants.

Les mat&#xE9;riaux les plus r&#xE9;ussies d&#x26;#39;implants m&#xE9;talliques actuellement des surfaces relativement lisses &#xE0; l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;chelle du micron, avec la plupart des &#xE9;checs survenant apr&#xE8;s seulement 10 ans. I maggior successo materiali metallici dell&#39;impianto al momento hanno superfici relativamente lisce sulla scala di dimensioni micron, con la maggior parte dei guasti che si verificano dopo solo 10 anni. Per andare oltre questa limite scala del tempo, sono stati sviluppati metodi texturing per modificare la superficie metallica per migliorare l&#39;integrazione dell&#39;impianto direttamente con circostante osso. Un flessibile processo di texturing ultrafast laser single-step &egrave; stato sviluppato che risultati in una trama superficiale che esibisce micron scala picchi e depressioni con submicron sovrapposti e caratteristiche su scala nanometrica. Vasta formazione di ponti cellulari di cellule stromali tra pilastri dimostra la risposta favorevole di cellule differenziate in superficie e la promozione del loro attaccamento. Espressione della fosfatasi alcalina e osteocalcina geni nelle cellule umane del midollo osseo sono stati visti per aumentare la superficie con texture. Los materiales de metal con m&#xE1;s &#xE9;xito del implante en la actualidad tienen superficies relativamente lisas en la escala de tama&#xF1;o de micras, con la mayor&#xED;a de las fallas que ocurren despu&#xE9;s de s&#xF3;lo 10 a&#xF1;os. Para mover m&#xE1;s all&#xE1; de esta escala de tiempo l&#xED;mite, los m&#xE9;todos de texturizaci&#xF3;n se han desarrollado para modificar la superficie del metal para mejorar la integraci&#xF3;n del implante directamente con el hueso circundante. Un flexible de un solo paso de l&#xE1;ser ultra r&#xE1;pido proceso de texturado se ha desarrollado que resulta en una textura de la superficie que muestra los picos y valles micrones escala con submicr&#xF3;nico superponen y nano escala caracter&#xED;sticas. Las muestras de titanio textura permanecen completamente hidr&#xF3;fila sin &#xE1;ngulo de contacto medibles, incluso despu&#xE9;s de varias semanas en atm&#xF3;sfera normal.
