A pH-sensitive copolymer PAsp(DIP)-b-PAsp(MEA) (PDPM) was synthesized and self-assembled to micelle loading chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) and introducing a gold nanocage structure for photothermo-chemotherapy and photoacoustic imaging. After further surface modification with polyethylene glycol (PEG), the DOX-loaded pH-sensitive gold nanocage (D-PGNC) around 100 nm possessed a uniform spherical structure with a pH-sensitive core of PAsp(DIP) incorporating DOX, an interlayer crosslinked via disulfide bonds and decorated with discontinuous gold shell, and a PEG corona. The release of DOX from D-PGNC was turned off in bloodstream due to the cross-linking and gold decoration of interlayer but turned on inside tumor tissue by multiple stimulations including the low pH value of tumor tissue (≈6.8), the low lysosomal pH value of cancer cells (≈5.0) and near-infrared (NIR) irradiation. The gold nanocage receiving NIR irradiation could generate hyperthermia to ablate tumor cells. Moreover, the photoacoustic (PA) imaging and analysis of DOX fluorescence inside tumor tissue demonstrated that photothermal therapy based on the gold nanocage effectively drove DOX penetration inside tumor. Owing to the rapid intratumor release and deep tissue penetration of drug favorable for killing cancer cells survived the photothermal therapy, the combined therapy based on D-PGNC via NIR irradiation exhibited a synergistic treatment effect superior to either chemotherapy or NIR-induced photothermal therapy alone.

Two magnetic-field-induced quantum critical behaviors were recently discovered in two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at LaTiO/SrTiO interface and interpreted by disordered superconducting puddles coupled through 2DEG. In this scenario, the 2DEG is proposed to undergo a spontaneous phase separation and breaks up into locally superconducting puddles in a metallic matrix. However, as the inhomogeneous superconducting 2DEG is only illative, this proposal still lacks the direct experimental demonstration. Here, we artificially construct superconducting puddles-2DEG hybrid system by depositing tin nanoislands array on single crystalline monolayer graphene, where the two quantum critical behaviors are reproduced. Through the finite-size scaling analysis on magnetoresistivity, we show that the two quantum critical behaviors result from the intra-island and inter-island phase coherence, respectively, which are further illustrated by the phase diagram. This work provides a platform to study superconducting quantum phase transitions in a 2D system and helps to integrate superconducting devices into semiconductor technology.

Double quantum criticality in superconducting tin arrays-graphene hybrid.

C:N ratios play critical roles in determining the stability and performance of the wastewater treatment reactor. Here, we investigated bacterial and archaeal community composition, diversity, association networks, and functional profiles in livestock and poultry breeding wastewater (LPBW) with C:N gradients from 7.8 to 18.9 using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. Highest total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorous (TP) removal rates were detected in the wastewater with high C:N ratios, while bacterial and archaeal communities in the wastewater varied across the four C:N ratios. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Bacteroides were generally the dominant phyla in the wastewater across treatments, with Candidatus Saccharibacteria being more enriched in the wastewater with high C:N ratios. Association network analysis showed that specific bacterial and archaeal taxa likely have similar metabolic activities allowing them to respond similarly to different C:N ratios. Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Candidatus Saccharibacteria, and Proteobacteria were the keystone species found in the networks. Most dominant bacterial functions in the wastewater were chemoheterotrophy and aerobic chemoheterotrophy. Nitrite respiration, nitrous oxide denitrification, nitrate denitrification and nitrite denitrification were up-regulated with increased C:N ratios. Our findings provide new insights into our understanding of the compositions, potential associations, and predicted functional profiles of the microbial community in LPBW treated with different C:N ratios.
