A hydrophilic poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchip with stable electroosmotic flow (EOF) was prepared by a simple and reproducible coating procedure with silica nanoparticles. The microchannel wall of PDMS chip was coated with a layer of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and then collected silica nanoparticles. The assembly was followed by contact angle, charge-coupled device (CCD) imaging, electroosmotic flow (EOF) measurements and electrophoretic separation experiments. Contact angle measurements revealed the coated surface was hydrophilic; the water contact angle for coated chips was 64 degrees compared with a water contact angle for native PDMS chips of 113 degrees . CCD images indicated a substantially more hydrophilic microchannel than native PDMS. We carried out a comparison and concluded that the EOF values on the coated PDMS chip were close to those values on the glass chip above pH 7.0. The coated channel had an excellent stability and reproducibility, RSD of EOF values (n=6) on native and coated PDMS microchip was 1.58 and 0.57%, respectively. Separation of dopamine and epinephrine was performed on the coated chip generated 1.40 x 10(5), 1.39 x 10(5) theoretical plates/m compared with the native PDMS chip of 0.79 x 10(5), 0.88 x 10(5), high resolution of 1.7 was achieved with a channel of 3.60 cm length.

Modification of poly(dimethylsiloxane) microfluidic channels with silica nanoparticles based on layer-by-layer assembly technique.

The addition reactions of the 16e half-sandwich complexes (p-cymene)M(S2C2B10H10) (, M=Ru; , M=Os) and Cp*Ir(E2C2B10H10) (, E=S; , E=Se) with ethynylferrocene lead selectively to the 18e complexes (p-cymene)Ru(S2C2B10H9)(H2CCFc) (Fc=ferrocenyl) (), (p-cymene)Os(S2C2B10H9)(H2CCFc) (), Cp*Ir(S2C2B10H9)(H2CCFc) () and Cp*Ir(Se2C2B10H9)(H2CCFc) (), in which the alkyne is regio- and stereoselectively inserted into one of the M-E bonds that may further lead to metal-induced B-H activation, hydrogen atom transfer from the carborane via the metal center to the inserted alkyne, and the generation of a M-B bond. In all complexes the S-eta2-(Fc)C-C and C-B(M) moieties occupy a cisoid position. The four new complexes are characterized by IR, MS, NMR spectroscopy and microanalysis, and the X-ray structural analysis of is performed. was observed to promote the uptake of anticancer drug daunorubicin in drug-resistant leukemia K562 cells.

Design rules for DNA nanotechnology have been mostly learnt from using linear single-stranded (ss) DNA as the source material. For example, the core structure of a typical DAO (double crossover, antiparallel, odd half-turns) tile for assembling 2D lattices is constructed from only two linear ss-oligonucleotide scaffold strands, similar to two ropes making a square knot. Herein, a new type of coupled DAO (cDAO) tile and 2D lattices of small circular ss-oligonucleotides as scaffold strands and linear ss-oligonucleotides as staple strands are reported. A cDAO tile of cDAO-c64nt (c64nt: circular 64 nucleotides), shaped as a solid parallelogram, is constructed with a Holliday junction (HJ) at the center and two HJs at both poles of a c64nt; similarly, cDAO-c84nt, shaped as a crossed quadrilateral composed of two congruent triangles, is formed with a HJ at the center and four three-way junctions at the corners of a c84nt. Perfect 2D lattices were assembled from cDAO tiles: infinite nanostructures of nanoribbons, nanotubes, and nanorings, and finite nanostructures. The structural relationship between the visible lattices imaged by AFM and the corresponding invisible secondary and tertiary molecular structures of HJs, inclination angle of hydrogen bonds against the double-helix axis, and the chirality of the tile can be interpreted very well. This work could shed new light on DNA nanotechnology with unique circular tiles.
