Biography

Tatiana Zyrianova is an Assistant Project Scientist in the Department of Pediatrics at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA, USA. She received her undergraduate and doctoral degrees from St. Petersburg State University, Russia.

During Dr. Zyrianova’s Ph.D. training at Leipzig University in Germany and St. Petersburg State University in Russia, she gained considerable expertise in skeletal muscle and ion channel biology, contraction and relaxation, and G-protein coupled receptor (CD97) signaling during these processes. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Germany (2015-2017), she focused on ultradian oscillatory expression of myogenic progenitor factor MyoD in muscle stem cells (satellite cells). As a Research Associate (2017-2019) at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, Dr. Zyrianova investigated the effects of aging and inflammation on myoepithelial cell and lacrimal gland function. Currently Dr. Zyrianova is spearheading a project establishing the role of calcium-activated, large conductance potassium channels (BK) in the development of acute lung injury.

Dr. Zyrianova’s research accomplishments were honored with multiple awards in the different countries, including fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Government of St. Petersburg, Science and High School Committee, Russia, and oral presentation and poster awards at the Scripps Research Institute and the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California.
