Adam Schoen

Adam Schoen is an undergraduate research assistant in the Small Grain Pathology as well as the Small Grain Genetics and Breeding Program at the University of Maryland in College Park. He began his research by determining mutation frequencies in a TILLING population of Aegilops tauschii, bread wheat's D-genome progenitor. Since then he has found a passion in developing and utilizing TILLING populations of bread wheat cultivars, barley, and Triticum monococcum for the screening of important genes in order to improve resistance and nutritional content, as well as to validate genes controlling development.

His goal as a researcher is to continue into a PhD program following the completion of his undergraduate degree. Schoen also has a strong passion in pedagogy and currently teaches lab sections of the introductory molecular and microbiology courses, as well as TAs for lecture sections of molecular biology courses.
