Claudia Neuhauser, PhD, is Associate Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer in the Division of Research and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Houston. Neuhauser’s research is at the interface of mathematics and biology, and focuses on the analysis of ecological and evolutionary models and the development of statistical methods in biomedical applications. Her interest in furthering the quantitative training of life science undergraduate students has resulted in a calculus book (Calculus for Biology and Medicine), which is currently in its fourth edition.
Prior to coming to the University of Houston, Claudia served as Associate Vice President for Research and Director of Research Computing at the University of Minnesota. In her capacity as Director of Research Computing she directed the University of Minnesota Informatics Institute (UMII), the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (MSI), and U Spatial. She was the founding Director of Graduate Studies of the Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology graduate program from 2008 to 2017.
She received her Diplom in mathematics from the Universität Heidelberg (Germany) in 1988, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Cornell University in 1990. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a fellow of the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
